Sri Lankan exporters look to cut exposure to Russia and Ukraine

Sri Lankan exporters are currently in the process of reducing their exposure temporarily suspending exports to the Russian and Ukrainian markets, a leading export chamber in the country said.

“Sri Lankan exporters are concentrating on reducing their exposure or tentatively stopping exporting to these markets,” said National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) CEO Shiham Marikar.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine that started about a week ago continues to send ripples across the world since the two countries are key source markets for the global supply chain.
Despite Sri Lanka being a small economy, the poor diversification of its export markets and basket makes it vulnerable to the shocks that arise from the conflict.

UN Resolution on Ukraine: China, India and Sri Lanka abstain

Some 141 Members voted for the Resolution and five against (Russia, Belarus, Eritrea, Syria and North Korea). There were 35 abstentions among the 193 Members. Sri Lanka abstained from voting for the Resolution, along with India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and several other countries.

Qatar Airways re-establishes pre-pandemic levels of service to SL

Qatar Airways increased the number of flights to Sri Lanka by introducing its fifth daily flight from Doha to Colombo on Thursday (24).

The additional frequency will support increased travel demand to and from Sri Lanka, reinforcing the airline’s role in assisting the ongoing recovery of global travel and tourism in the region.

With this frequency increase, Qatar Airways will be one of the first international carriers to return to its pre-pandemic operations to Colombo. It is also the only airline to have continued uninterrupted services between Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB).

Exploderande supernovor slungade sällsynt grundämne till jorden

Ytterbium är en av världens mest sällsynta jordartsmetaller och upptäcktes redan 1794 i Ytterby gruva i Stockholms skärgård, av amatörgeologen Carl Axel Arrhenius. SVERIGE - SRI LANKA

Sverige och Sri Lanka upprättade diplomatiska förbindelser 1949 och landet var ett av de första samarbetsländerna för svenskt bistånd. De bilaterala relationerna har dominerats av utvecklingssamarbetet som pågick i närmare femtio år, men detta fasades ut under 2010 som en följd av beslutet att koncentrera det bilaterala biståndet till färre länder. Samma år stängdes ambassaden och Sveriges ambassadör i New Delhi är numera sidoackrediterad till Sri Lanka. Ett honorärt generalkonsulat finns i Colombo. Sri Lanka har en ambassad i Stockholm sedan 1970.
