Physical inactivity is a significant health concern worldwide and the prevalence is estimated to 27.5% of adults and 47% among patients with chronic pain. A single bout of exercise may induce exercise-induced hypoalgesia in healthy individuals, while the opposite has been reported for chronic pain patients. Exercise-induced pain exacerbations may be a major barrier to achieve increased physical activity (PA). This study showed that low pain sensitivity in patients with chronic pain was significantly associated with high self-reported PA but not with low anxiety and depression. This indicates the importance of helping chronic pain patients increase their level of PA. |
